A Question of Sustainability: Reusable Totes

Between 500 billion and 1 trillion plastic bags are used worldwide per year. To make matters worse, anywhere between 60 and 100 million barrels of oil are required to make those plastic bags every year. And then there’s the trees… The United States was responsible for clear cutting 14 million of them to produce the 10 billion paper grocery bags used back in 1999. So it’s pretty obvious reusable bags are not only the sustainable choice, but the only choice. The question is: With the myriad of sustainable totes available, which are the most effective?

Envirosax states: “We made a decision very early on to never go down the polypropylene path even though this would have been very profitable for us. We see the stronger more durable polyester envirosax bags as the new generation of reusable shopping bags. The whole point of a reusable bag is REUSE, so why make it out of a material that decays in the UV rays of the Sun has inferior tensile strength properties and rips easily as do the cheap polypropylene bags.”

Below we’ve highlighted a few totes that we thought take the idea of sustainability a little further than the rest. Please share your thoughts or lead us to other examples of sustainable totes that we may have overlooked.

Preventing theft of Women’s Handbags

jamesmilsompa_450x350 A thief was caught on a covert camera stealing from a parked car for the third time this year, police said.
James Milsom, 21, from Mangotsfield, Bristol, was caught by the covert capture car, which is used by police around the city to catch criminals in the act.
When the thief breaks in, a tiny camera photographs them, assisting officers in the subsequent arrest.
Officers bait the vehicle with a bounty of tempting items for a thief, such as satellite navigation systems, handbags, car stereos and mobile phones, police said.
Milsom’s most recent theft was the 110th time a covert capture car has been targeted in Bristol.
======================================
Preventing theft of Women’s Handbags
I was recently looking at my own handbag, thinking of all the advantages and maybe even disadvantages of my how I handle my own handbag. The first thing that I noticed was the fact that I use it a lot. All the contents of the bag usual stay in my bag at all times, rotating from different bills to receipts that there will be in the bag at a given time of the month. My purse or wallet usually contains all the money that I have on me at that given moment. I’m sure that the majority of people never take their purse out of there handbag, it’s the home of the purse.

My handbag has a permanent place in my home too. Here are some Tips on where you should not keep your handbag. It should never be too close to the entrance door, on the entrance table if you have one. Neither should it be on the coat hanger near the entrance of the house. What we also do a lot is while driving our cars we put the bag on the seat next to us. This is a big no-no. You can put it on the floor and try to push it out of site. Or place it on side of the seat by the door on your side. Many handbags have been stolen off car seats, while the driver is sitting right there. If it’s a warm day and your car window is open it’s very easy for a walker by or a cunning motor cyclist to just grab your bag. Never leave it in the car when you have stepped out even if you don’t have anything in the bag of real value, a thief does not know that there might not be anything of value in there and smash your car window just to get at it. Men’s brief cases and traveling luggage in visual site in a car are very exciting objects to steal. My brother in-law once told me of an incident that 3 colleagues came back from a trip and stopped for a lunch the two men put their luggage in the boot of the car but the lady insisted on leaving her luggage on the back seat, well 45 minutes later the car window had been smashed in and her luggage gone.
Handbags with long over the shoulder straps are very comfortable, but then we tend to forget to actually secure them with our hand and hold on to them. It is very easy to observe who is not being attendant of their bag and swipe it off a shoulder. So if you need your hands, try and put the bag over your head and shoulder, this might not complement your outfit, but it will secure your bag. Try never to have all your eggs in one basket. Keep credit cards in the separate zipper in your bag, as some thieves steal the bag just to remove the wallet, ditch the bag and run. So there is a bigger chance of you finding your bag with the wallet gone.
I hope that these small insights have been informative.

Women’s Handbags

jan-31-0271A Lady is not a Lady if she does not have a handbag.
Try getting a little girl to play “big girl” without a handbag, no way!
Every little girl goes through that period that she plays big girl, I remember
Myself putting on makeup and getting stuck into my mom’s cupboards, real Women’s handbags all over the place. Here you could find matching shoes and handbags. Shoe stores always kept matching handbags. Now days they are separate. Bags and handbags are usually sold in their own unique shops, selling traveling suitcase to toilet bags and schoolbags, Laptop bags and the elegant handbags.

My mom always wore beautiful outfits with matching handbags, and shoes. To this day I don’t own the amount of shoes that my mother owned. But then again it might have been a real fetish that she had. She was always very stylish and elegant. I might add that she owned her own clothing shop which added to her awareness of style and fashion.

Today society is more relaxed about the matching outfits, we can mix and match, but a Lady does not leave home without her Handbag.
We truly never leave home without our bags and handbags.

I tend to buy once and use for years until my children or friends remark that its time I bought a new handbag. There for when I do buy I go for quality so I’m sticking to tradition, trying to buy quality and not quantity.

Traveling Bags are the test of the quality of a company bag. Airlines must spend a fortune replacing suitcases. In this case it might not be totally up to quality but the workers and how they handle your luggage. I have had wheels broken off my suitcase, it was replaced by the airlines, and one time the handle bar was broken off too. These incidences make you want to buy only the best strongest quality on the market, as the handling of the case is not in your hands.
